Have you ever noticed the nicely packaged coffee beans displayed in some of the coffee shops you go to? Were you once tempted to buy these beans only to realize you don’t know what to do with them? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here is a quick crash course on what to do with those whole coffee beans.
LESSON 1: GRINDING BEANS
The first thing before you could use your coffee beans is grinding them. There are many ways to grind a coffee bean. Here is a list of the options you could use.
- Using a Coffee Grinder
The first option you have is to use a coffee grinder. It could be daunting to choose from all the available options you have for coffee grinders. However, first-timers are advised to use hand-operated grinders because hand-operated grinders are cheap and often outperform electric grinders for the same price.
- Hand Grinder
There are many different models of hand grinders in the market but they are generally similar in usage.
First, remove the top half, and put the beans in that compartment.
Reattach it.
Then using the level attached, just wind the lever till all of your beans are grinded.
- Electric Grinder
An electric grinder operates closely to a hand grinder. You load the beans on an upper compartment and press a button for it to start grinding.
- Using a Blender
If you don’t have a grinder and can’t purchase one, you could use your blender. Remember to check your blender’s instructions so you won’t break your blender’s machine. Put the beans in the blender and blend them to a grind.
- Using a Mortar and Pestle
Another alternative to a grinder is a mortar and pestle. Grab some beans and put them in the mortar. And using the pestle, just smash the beans till they are fine ground. Be careful since this method could get messy if you put force into the grounding process.
- Using a Meat Tenderizer
This technique uses the same idea as Mortar and Pestle. The difference is how it is executed. With a Meat Tenderizer, you would put the beans in a bag and smash it through the bag. This is less messy because the ground is confined inside the plastic.
LESSON 2: BREWING THE GROUND
Now that you have your grounds, it’s time to brew it into a beverage. There are many ways to brew a coffee, but here are some easy ways.
- Coffee Maker
This is one of the easiest ways to brew a coffee ground. Just follow the instructions of your specific coffee maker and you are good to go.
- The Cowboy Coffee Brew
This method of brewing is the closest to brewing an instant coffee. This only requires a pot. And to brew you would only need to boil the right amount of water in the pot. Once the water boils, add the coffee grounds while stirring. After a few minutes, let it sit, and pour just a small amount of cold water to settle the ground at the bottom. You could now either pour the coffee as is or through a filter to ensure the grounds don’t come with it.
- French Press
This technique uses a French Press. You boil water and then let it sit for a few minutes. Pour the coffee ground into the French press and pour the water on it. Mix. Cover with the lid and wait for four minutes. Then press the filter down slowly. Pour and enjoy.
- Cold Brew
This would need a cold brew maker. First, put the grounds in the coffee mesh and pour room-temperature water into the cold brew maker. Cover with the lid and let it sit for between 12 hours or 24 hours depending on preferences. Afterward, separate the grounds and pour the liquid on ice.
And there you have it. You have now learned, how to brew your coffee. You can check the other blog posts on the website to learn more about coffee and coffee brewing.
